Japan Day Düsseldorf (Japan-Tag Düsseldorf/NRW) is widely recognized as one of the largest Japanese cultural festivals in Europe. Held annually along the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf—home to the largest Japanese community in Germany—the event celebrates the long-standing friendship and strong economic and cultural ties between Japan and Germany.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a diverse stage program featuring traditional Japanese performances, martial arts demonstrations such as kendo and judo, powerful taiko drumming, as well as contemporary music and dance acts. Interactive workshops and hands-on activities—such as calligraphy, origami, and kimono dressing—offer engaging cultural experiences for all ages.
The festival grounds are lined with numerous booths offering authentic Japanese cuisine, including sushi, takoyaki, ramen, and traditional sweets. In addition, exhibitors present Japanese crafts, pop culture merchandise, travel information, and insights into Japanese businesses and organizations, providing a comprehensive glimpse into both Japan’s rich traditions and its vibrant modern culture.
During the day, I will be at the Kimono & Ikebana tent and look forward to welcoming you there.

The highlight of the evening is a spectacular fireworks display over the Rhine, bringing the celebration to a memorable close. More than just a festival, Japan Day Düsseldorf serves as a powerful symbol of cultural exchange and mutual appreciation, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

We warmly invite you to join us and experience the beauty and spirit of Japan in Düsseldorf!
