Beyond “Being Able to Put on a Kimono”

~ A Monthly Kimono Lesson to Explore the Beauty of Each Season ~

Have you brought your beloved kimono all the way from Japan, only to leave it tucked away in the closet?

This lesson is about more than simply learning how to dress yourself in a kimono. In this small-group class, you will gradually learn different seasonal kimono styles and obi techniques, so that you can enjoy having kimono as part of your life for many years to come.

Getting Started: 3 Introductory Lessons

We begin with a kimono and a hanhaba obi (half-width obi).
In three lessons, you will learn the basics and become able to dress yourself independently.

Then: Monthly Continuing Classes

Each season, we explore different kimono styles and obi techniques:

  • Autumn: Nagoya obi – various styling techniques
  • Winter: Fukuro obi – the classic Nijū-daiko double-taiko knot
  • Spring: Houmongi and elegant outfits for celebrations
  • Summer: Yukata and creative hanhaba obi styles

Already have experience dressing yourself in kimono?
You are welcome to join directly from the continuing classes.

A Glimpse into Our Kimono Lessons

Single-session participation is also welcome.

Participation Fee

  • In-person lesson: €10 per session (including venue fee)
  • Kimono rental: +€5
  • Online via Zoom: €5

👘 Kimono rental is available, so you can join the lesson without having your own kimono.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance are free of charge.
A 50% cancellation fee applies for cancellations made 48–24 hours prior to the event.
A 100% cancellation fee applies for cancellations made on the day of the event.
